Political Douchebag Award winner: President Hugo Chavez

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez earns the first ever lifetime emeritus Political Douchebag award.

Why he earned the award:

Besides destroying the Venezuelan economy, polarizing Venezuelan society and singlehandedly destroying the only enterprise that actually did something for Venezuela, aka PDVSA, homeboy has taken it upon himself to quiet down any and all dissent in the media.

As it stands now, it’s practically a capital offense to say anything negative about the guy. He recently shutdown a cable TV station for airing views that were contrary to his.

Today, Chavez clearly demonstrates that he is an uneducated buffoon in the fashion that only a douchebag can.

Globovision (article in Spanish) has reported that Chavez said he will defeat the “Yankee Empire and fascism anywhere it exists” which must mean that he is planning on stepping down or something.

Now, Chavez is trying to take over the banking system, which is the last remaining bastion out of his control.

Enjoy your award.

Social Media Douchebag Award of the day 01/28/10

I think I need to thank today’s recipient for 2 things:

  1. Reminding me that I needed to add a “Social Media Douchebag” award category
  2. Proving my point for me

So, thanks dude.

Why this person wins today’s award:

I sent out a tweet today, sure, it was snarky, but it was in response to the hypocrisy that I see in the #tcot movement on Twitter. In case you don’t know what #tcot is, it stands for “top conservatives on twitter” or some such other douchebaggy name like that. I don’t know what it takes to be a top conservative, but the whole sentence makes me think of things you do to preserve meats and whatnot, but I digress.

Here’s my original tweet:

Is it a requirement that you be a hypocrite to be one of these #tcot tea bagging douchebags?

Here’s a link to my tweet

For the record, these same #tcot people were the ones that last year were saying that anyone that disagreed with the president was an America hating communist or something like that. These same people, now do nothing more than disagree with President Obama.

I may be wrong, but if you’re the same people that were angry that people were disagreeing with President Bush, then shouldn’t you also support and agree with President Obama?

Enter today’s Social Media Douchebag award winner: Drew McDaniel

He “retweets” which is to say he resends my message, only it’s not my message. This is what he sends:

RT @rafaelmarquez: Is it a requirement that you be a hypocrite to be one of these #tlot Democrat “D-bagging” douchebags?

Here’s the link to his tweet.

Proper “retweet” etiquette calls for not changing the meaning of the original tweet. Meaning, he can edit out some vowels etc. to make my tweet shorter, but it’s really bad form and douchebaggy to completely change the meaning of the tweet.

I immediately sent him this message:

@drew_mcdaniel Dude, that’s not what I tweeted, I’d appreciate a proper retweet, thanks! #tlot

link to tweet

I haven’t heard anything from the guy since.

So, I’m awarding him a Social Media Douchebag of the day award for completely changing the meaning of my message, crediting me with his nonsense, ignoring proper retweet etiquette and not properly retracting his gibberish.

I’ll give myself an honorary mention for this whole incident as well.

Edit/ update:

This was Drew McDaniel’s reply to my request for proper credit:

RT @rafaelmarquez: @drew_mcdaniel Dude, thanks! #tcot #tlot

link to his tweet

That pretty much proves his worthiness as winner of the Social Media Douchebag of the day

Sports Douchebag Award goes to: Paul Shirley

This article about Paul Shirley over on the Huffington Post was brought to my attention. Apparently, he wrote a letter to the Haitian people and among other things urged them to “use a condom.”

What other gems are in the letter?

  • He congratulates the people of Haiti for “developing the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere”. Of course, we all know that basketball players are the most intelligent of all the, like you know, professional, like you know, athletes and stuff.
  • Another gem in his letter:

“I haven’t donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I dont give money to homeless men on the street. Based on past experiences, I don’t think the guy with the sign that reads “Need You’re[sic] Help” is going to do anything constructive with the dollar I might give him.”

I hope he’s quoting the wrong “your” in his little example. You’d think someone like him would be able to afford a copywriter, but I digress.

  • He’s not done tho, he continues with:

“Shouldnt much of the responsibility for the disaster lie with the victims of that disaster?”

I don’t know how the Haitian people, poor as they are, would’ve been able to MAKE THE FREAKING EARTH MOVE, but what do I know. I’m not blessed with the huge intellectual power of a basketball player.

  • Shirley actually manages to say something in his letter that is sensible, he says: “Imagine that I’m a caveman.” Done.

I could go with what Shirley says about the tsunami that killed 5000 people back in 2004, but I think I’ve made my point. If you feel like reading the rest of his letter, go here.

Paul Shirley, I award you a Sports Douchebag Award.

Congratulations!
